From Homeless to Homeowner
Vicky arrived at our doorstep, homeless, separated from her husband and with her three precious children. We soon found out that Vicky wasn’t just a little down, but diagnosed with major depression. Through the Volunteers of America Permanent Supportive Housing program, Vicky was connected with resources that allowed her to get medical treatment, a roof over her head, establish income, enroll her children in school and even furnish her apartment.
When Vicky’s husband Richie, a military veteran on active duty, relocated to Columbus a year later, Volunteers of America helped them reunite and heal as a family. Just recently, they were able to not only claim a healthy marriage but took on a new title – homeowner. Unlike the woman that came to Volunteers of America a few years ago, Vicky now has a smile on her face.
“I don’t know how we would have made it without programs like Volunteers of America.”
